This is book #11 in the Tracers series but could be read as a stand alone. Characters from the other book appear in the book which is nice for people who have read the series. The books starts out with a bang, literally. We witness 2 murders, one thru the eyes of the victim as they are shot. Det Danielle Harper is made the lead detective on the case. It is her first time taking the lead on a case. The Delphi Center is called to help with the forensics. The Delphi Center has the top forensic people in the country. Scott Black is their top ballistics expert. He and Danielle have known each other for 15 years but until a drunken kiss 6 mos ago they were only friends. This book is a fast paced suspense ride full of plot twists. The investigation gets more and more complicated and I had no idea what was going to happen next. I never guessed who the bad guy was. I loved watching the relationship between Dani and Scott. If you are looking for a romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat this book is for you. I would give this book 4 1/2 stars. Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book. Can't wait for her next book.

Not the best book in this story. Usually I can't put down this author's books but this one was the exception. Lots of action but I felt the romance was slightly lacking.
Another excellent, on-the-edge-of-my-seat read by Griffin. Loved Scott and Dani. One of my favorite Tracers couples. Great story-line.
Not loving this one. Although there is a lot of "action" it is interesting action. I don't even particularly like the main characters.
I love the way this author weaves her plot, and characters through romance and danger. This series is a great one. Although there seemed to be a loose string with this one, unless it resolves in the next book.
I am a fan of this series, I have started by # 11 and slowly making my way to #1. It's excellent, characters are interesting and the plots are full of suspense
Laura Griffin’s AT CLOSE RANGE is heart-stopping romantic suspense thriller full of action and surprises. The author immediately grabs her readers’ attention with a double murder on the first page. She keeps them on the edge their seats until the very end. Griffin weaves her mystery thriller around her protagonists, San Marcos PD detective Dani Harper and Scott Black, the Delphi Center’s Chief firearms expert. Readers learn both professional and personal backstories of Dani and Scott, including details of the hidden feelings they have for each other.
Griffin places readers next to Dani as she uncovers clues that bring more questions into her investigation. She helps readers see Dani’s determination and independence as the investigation proceeds. The author keeps creating opportunities to bring Dani and Scott together and places readers in the middle of the developing relationship between Dani and Scott. The pace of the investigation picks up momentum, and the more Dani and Scott work together the more their relationship intensifies.
The storyline’s action and danger increase at the turn of the page. Griffin introduces several support characters both good and bad providing backstories of each character and the roles they play as they enter the storyline. The author describes the importance the lab work the Delphi Center provides to the ongoing investigation. Following up on the results from the lab increases the action and danger for Dani and Scott. Griffin adds interesting twists and turns changing the storyline’s direction. Events unfold at a lightening pace. The author keeps readers on pins and needles guessing about Dani and Scott’s romance and the unpredictable ending the mystery.
I bought this book based on the rave reviews-HUGE mistake. The book starts out with great promise. However, it gets mucky toward the middle, then just downright boring, tedious to the point I felt I was simply wasting my time. I was curious to finish however, to see the whodunit aspect of the book, however, when it started into somewhat of a corny, cheesy waste of time I skipped to the end to find out what actually happened. BORING.
That said, most, almost all of the books I've purchased from , based on reviews were excellent, fast reads and I will continue to purchase books written by one particular author, Scott Prat.
